Want to Easily Turn Your Mary Kay Business into Super Performer?
Jenny, a Mary Kay rep here in our metro area said she was getting only one NEW cleint a year from the Mary Kay national website. Here’s how she increased traffic to 140+ a month, and sales up by 10-20 a month. She’s now the number one in Mary Kay in our area, and on her way to becoming a director, and getting her car.
Here’s how we did it.
I had offered a free coaching session to the first 5 people from our BNI (Business Networking International) chapter. Jenny was the first to grab it up.
Before meeting with Jenny just before last Christmas I had tried to find her listed somewhere . . . on the internet . . . yellow pages . . . BNI websites . . . even on the Mary Kay national website and didn’t find her anywhere. When i scanned the Mary Kay website for the Mary Kay people within 5 miles of our small suburb of a metro area I scanned through 60 names and hadn’t found her yet. That told me something . . . that if someone was looking for a Mary Kay rep they weren’t finding her. Even if she had sent someone to the Mary Kay website to look for her by name they might not be finding her.
So, when we met I asked her, “How many NEW clients do you get from the internet, or more directly from the Mary Kay website?” She thought for a minute, and said, “Maybe 1 or 2 a year. I don’t really use the internet that way. I work my local market, my networking, to find people to do facials, and send them to them to the website to buy products.”
She was rather surprised when she did think about that. She thought that the Mary Kay website would cycle through all of the Mary Kay reps and eventually her turn would come up in the rotation. But as I had challenged her to think about it, she had discovered she was getting only 1 or 2 new people a year. Something wasn’t working as well as she’d hoped.
In fact, Jenny had been a Mary Kay rep for 7+ years and had not made it to directorship, nor her car. (But after the changes we made she’s now within reach.)
I showed Jenny that there were over 1,000 people looking for a Mary Kay rep on Google right here in our metro area. My rule of thumb is that 5% of those searching should be reachable. That would be 50 people a month.
Any of you Mary Kay reps out there like to have 50 more people a month?
By the way, try this for your own area. Either search for “Google Keyword Tool” on Google, or go directly to
and type in “Mary Kay ___________ [name your metro area]”. Google will tell you how many people are actually looking for a Mary Kay rep in your area, and it will also give you a list of other ways people may be searching for what you do.
Download that list into an Excel spreadsheet. Keep it to remind you how many people are looking for you and in what way.
Also, try searching for other words, such as “lipstick ______ [your metro area]”, “eye liner _______”, “mascara ________” etc. If you have some item that’s selling well, search for that.
Add up the total number of searches. There were over 1,000 looking directly for a Mary Kay rep in the larger metro area, quite a few in some of the suburbs, and lots looking for the other stuff, like lipstick, etc.
Doesn’t that mean that if you aren’t getting in front of those people where they are searching that you are missing out on a LOT of busienss? Definitely!
As I said, there were over 1,000 looking in our metro area, and I told Jenny that 5% should result in something around 50 people a month for her. I asked her if she’d like to throw $30 to $40 at the wall for a test just to see what would stick. She aid, “Go for it!”
Two weeks later she had 72 new people exploring the Mary Kay website, and around 10+ sales. That’s 140+ new people now on her Mary Kay website, a percentage of those talking with her, and 20 or so doing business with her that she didn’t have before. . . And she didn’t have to go chasing them.
She’s told me stories about the calls she gets, I think even one that resulted in a party within a few hours of the call that made her over $1,000.
In any case, I heard that she’s on track now for her directorship and a car for the first time in 7+ years.
When I tried to figure how much this multiplied her results it was surprising. Let’s see 1-2 calls a year before, now 20 a month x 12 months is 240 or so new customers. That’s a multiplier of somewhere around 120 to 240 times more business than before.
